What happened at Eve Leary?
One hundred people finished a course that most drivers on Guyana's roads have never taken.
On Thursday 6 August 2026, the Officers' Training Centre at Eve Leary hosted a joint graduation for one hundred participants of the Professional Transportation, First Aid, CPR and Defensive Driving courses, delivered through a partnership between the Guyana Police Force and Clarke's Productions Inc.
The printed programme records a ceremony that ran from 9:30 to 11:00. It opened with prayer and the National Pledge, followed by remarks from Ms. Carlyne Stewart, Chief Experience Officer of Clarke's Productions Inc. Special remarks came from Sgt Brian Peters and from Fiona West. Adrian Clarke, Founder and Managing Director of Clarke's Productions Inc., delivered the motivational piece.
Certificates were presented by Assistant Superintendents Cooper, Lynch-Davis and Phoenix, alongside Mr Venture, Adrian Clarke, Fiona West and Ms. Carlyne Stewart. Inspector Dwayne Ross gave the vote of thanks. The ceremony card names the cohort the Class of 2026.

Why does a certificate ceremony matter?
Because the skills in that room are the ones missing at the roadside.
Defensive driving is a discipline, not an attitude. First aid and CPR decide what happens in the minutes before an ambulance arrives, which on many Guyanese routes is the interval that determines the outcome. A driver who can do both is not simply better employed. They are a different kind of first responder.
The Summit's own figures put the case plainly. Registered vehicles in Guyana have grown 187 per cent over the past decade, on figures attributed to the Guyana Revenue Authority. One in four road fatalities involves a commercial transport operator, attributed to the National Road Safety Council. The Ministry of Public Works figure for the annual economic cost of road incidents is G$14 billion.
This newspaper has reported the same gap from the regional side: the Caribbean has demand for crash investigation and reconstruction capability and very little supply of it.
Who should be on the October stage?
A great speaker for an event like this would be Kenute Hare.
He spent more than two decades building Jamaica's road safety architecture and crash investigation system, as Director of the Island Traffic Authority and of the Road Safety Unit, and carries 26 years in transportation safety, legislation, enforcement and crash reconstruction. He has already led workshops in Guyana, and he was on the programme at the International Road Federation's 13th Caribbean Regional Congress in Georgetown in July.
The capability the region is short of is the capability he spent a career building. Putting him in front of Guyanese regulators, insurers and operators for two days would be worth more than most keynote slots.
He is not on the announced lineup, and speaker proposals closed on 31 July. The committee notifies applicants by 31 August and the full lineup is published on 15 September, which leaves the convenor room to extend an invitation.
What connects Eve Leary to October?
The curriculum does.
Clarke's Productions Inc. runs the Professional Transport Operator programme, a structured pathway from defensive driving fundamentals through chauffeur training and fleet management practice to a competency-based credential aligned with Caribbean Vocational Qualifications. The courses completed at Eve Leary sit on that pathway.
Beyond The Wheels 2.0 is where that pathway is argued for at national level. CPI convenes it, and the Summit's stated objective is to lift the professional standard of the people behind the wheel until "professional driver" means the same thing in Georgetown as it does in any modern transportation economy.
One hundred certificates is a cohort. A national standard is a policy. The distance between them is what the Summit exists to close.
A hundred trained drivers is a good week. A national standard is what turns a good week into a decade.
What is Beyond The Wheels 2.0?
A two-day Transportation and Road Safety Summit, on 6 and 7 October 2026 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal.
The programme runs across nine tracks: road safety and driver dignity; fleet modernisation; logistics and trade corridors; infrastructure readiness; regulatory reform; insurance and risk; mental health behind the wheel; corporate responsibility; and economic growth and mobility.
Day one is built to set out the diagnosis. Day two builds the response and closes with the signing of a National Road Safety Declaration by participating institutions, operators and government agencies.
It follows a smaller predecessor. On 20 May 2025, Clarke's Productions Inc. convened a business luncheon under the Beyond The Wheels banner with the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association, an event the GMSA recorded in its 2025 Annual Report as a response to rising traffic fatalities and truck-related crashes.
How does someone attend?
Through the Summit's registration form, and sooner rather than later.
Capacity is 200 delegates, and the organisers report that 40 per cent is already reserved by partners and government agencies. A two-day delegate pass is G$50,000 and covers all plenary and track sessions, the sector showcase, conference materials, lunch on both days, and the day one evening reception.
Registration is open through the official form. The full speaker lineup is announced on 15 September.
Sponsorship runs in four tiers. Title Sponsor, at G$3 million, carries naming rights, keynote stage time at both the launch and the event, a premium branded booth and ten delegate passes, and is reserved for one institution. Platinum, at G$1.5 million, includes a speaking slot, a branded booth and six passes. Gold, at G$750,000, includes a standard branded booth and five passes. Silver, at G$500,000, carries logo placement across event materials and four passes. Every tier is named in media releases.
Three institutions are already signed at Gold: Sterling Products Limited, El Dorado Offshore and Evolve Mobility Guyana. The Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association is a strategic partner. The title position is still open.
Exhibitors work a 1,200 square foot floor running both days. A standard booth is 9 square metres, a premium booth 18 square metres with a branded wall, and there is a vehicle bay for full-size displays and 30-minute demo zone slots.
Working journalists can apply for accreditation, which is complimentary and includes press room access, daily briefings at 10:00, and pre-arranged interview slots.
Fleet operators, insurers, regulators and transport businesses have the most direct interest. So does any employer whose staff drive for a living, which in Guyana is most of them.
