1. Information We Collect

Information you give us directly. When you sign up for our newsletter, submit a press release, contact us, or join our journalist network, we collect your name, email, phone number, company or media outlet name, country, beat or industry, and any content you submit.

Information we collect automatically. When you visit our website we collect IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, time on page, and referring URL. We use cookies and similar technologies to provide site functionality and measure traffic.

Information from Meta Platforms. We use the Facebook Graph API and Instagram Graph API to operate our official La Caribeña News Facebook Page and Instagram account. Through these APIs we may access content posted by us to our own Page and Instagram account, comments and reactions on that content, engagement metrics (reach, impressions, follower counts) for our own Page and account, and direct messages sent to our Page or Instagram account by users who initiate contact with us. We only access content tied to our own Pages and accounts. We do not access the personal Facebook or Instagram accounts of our readers or audiences.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following categories of service providers, and only as necessary to operate La Caribeña News: hosting and content delivery (Ghost, Cloudflare), email delivery and newsletter management (Brevo), workflow automation (Make.com), analytics and platform measurement (Google Analytics, Meta Platforms native tools).

These providers are bound by their own data processing terms and are prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than serving us.

We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of La Caribeña News, our staff, and our readers.

4. Data from Meta Platforms

Data we obtain through the Facebook and Instagram Graph APIs is used only for the editorial operations described above. We do not use Meta Platform data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties. We retain Meta Platform data only as long as needed to operate our editorial workflow, with engagement and metrics data typically retained for up to 24 months for trend analysis.

5. Cookies

We use cookies for session management, traffic measurement, and content personalization. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site features may not work as expected.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to provide our services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Press release submissions are retained for editorial archive purposes for up to 7 years.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion of your data including data obtained from Meta Platforms, opt out of marketing communications at any time, and request a portable copy of your data.

8. Data Deletion Request

To request deletion of any personal data we hold about you, including data we may have collected through the Facebook or Instagram APIs, send an email to hello@lacaribenanews.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request" and include the email address, name, or social account you want removed. We confirm receipt within 5 business days and complete the deletion within 30 days unless legal retention obligations apply.

9. Children

La Caribeña News is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International Users

La Caribeña News is operated from Guyana. By using our services you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in Guyana and other countries where our service providers operate.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent version. Material changes will be announced on our website and to newsletter subscribers.
