Georgetown-based health and wellness organization to participate in 10th Anniversary celebration under theme “Empower, Educate, Elevate”
GEORGETOWN, Guyana — April 19, 2026 — Women's Haven® Guyana will participate in the CARICOM Regional Observance of International Girls in ICT Day on April 23, 2026, connecting its work against period poverty with the digital skills gap affecting girls across the Caribbean.
The CARICOM observance, now in its 10th year, will be held under the regional theme “Empower, Educate, Elevate: Building a Future-Ready CARICOM with Girls in ICT.” The event is scheduled for 10:00 AM AST and will feature live coding demonstrations, panel discussions, and youth-led conversations broadcast across CARICOM social media channels on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
The regional celebration coincides with the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) global observance under the 2026 theme “AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future.” The ITU will host a 24-hour hybrid webcast linking Tirana, Albania, and Brasília, Brazil, featuring mentoring sessions, panel discussions, and addresses from technology leaders worldwide. Activities include hands-on AI workshops, vibe coding sessions where participants build apps in real time using artificial intelligence, robotics competitions, and virtual mentoring programs targeting girls and young women aged 18 to 25.
Women’s Haven® Guyana, the local office of a female-founded organic feminine care company, brings a distinct perspective to the observance. The organization provides 100% organic cotton sanitary pads infused with graphene, yoni detox pearls, yoni steam kits, and wellness teas while educating women and girls on reproductive health. Its work addresses one of the most persistent, and least discussed, barriers to girls’ participation in education: period poverty. Girls who lack access to safe menstrual products miss school days each month, compounding learning gaps in every subject, including the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines that underpin digital careers.
“When a girl misses school because she cannot access safe, affordable menstrual products, she falls behind in every subject, including the digital skills that will define her future,” said Lexann McPhoy, CEO and Executive Distributor of Women’s Haven® Guyana. “We are honored to join this CARICOM observance because technology cannot empower girls who are absent from the classroom. Menstrual health and digital inclusion are two sides of the same mission: removing the barriers that prevent young women from reaching their full potential.”
The STEM community is encouraged to participate in the April 23 observance by joining virtual workshops, registering events on the ITU Girls in ICT portal, or engaging on social media using the hashtags #GirlsInICT and #AIforGood. The ITU provides a toolkit with guidelines for organizations wishing to host local events.
Women’s Haven® Guyana views its participation in the CARICOM observance as a natural extension of its commitment to eliminating barriers for girls and young women. The organization plans to use the platform to raise awareness of the connection between reproductive health access and educational outcomes, particularly in Caribbean communities where period poverty remains a significant challenge.
