Conference partners with Region Three Chamber of Commerce and Industry for business forum and networking event at West Central Mall Movie Theatre, Saturday, April 25, 2026
GEORGETOWN, Guyana — April 19, 2026 — ECONOME Business Conference & Mixer will hold “Untapped Waters: Investment Opportunities in Region 3” on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the West Central Mall Movie Theatre, beginning at 5:00 PM. Organized in collaboration with the Region Three Chamber of Commerce and Industry (R3CCI), the event is the first ECONOME edition held outside Georgetown and reflects growing investor and entrepreneurial interest in the Essequibo Islands–West Demerara corridor.
Region Three is experiencing significant public and private investment. The Wales Gas-to-Energy project, a US$2 billion facility nearing completion, will deliver a 300-megawatt power plant expected to reduce electricity costs by as much as 50 percent. The new Demerara Harbour Bridge, a US$260 million four-lane high-span crossing connecting Nandy Park to La Grange, replaces the 1976 structure and has eliminated toll charges. The Schoonord to Crane four-lane highway is open to traffic, with the next phase extending to Parika. New housing developments and commercial activity continue to expand across the corridor.
ECONOME was founded by Matthew Gaul and grew out of the Common Cent$ financial literacy podcast. The conference has established itself as a recognized platform for entrepreneurs, business leaders, and young professionals in Guyana. Previous editions at the Guyana Marriott Hotel have featured keynote addresses, panel discussions, pitch competitions, and networking mixers, with sponsorship from ExxonMobil Guyana and GTT, and support from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Guyana Office for Investment.
“We want to expand the reach of ECONOME, but more important than that, we want people to know that development and opportunities don’t only lie and exist in Georgetown,” said Matthew Gaul, Founder of ECONOME Business Conference & Mixer. “Guyana is a big country, and as a smart investor, you ought to be looking at where the opportunities are likely to come from and trying to maximize on those opportunities.”
Gaul cited the concentration of major projects in Region Three as the reason for expanding beyond Georgetown. The Gas-to-Energy facility at Wales, shore base operations, the new Demerara Harbour Bridge, the Schoonord to Crane highway, and growing residential communities are creating demand across construction, logistics, food services, retail, and professional services. ECONOME’s Region Three edition is designed to connect local entrepreneurs with the mentorship, financial education, and business networks needed to participate in that growth.
“There’s lots of activity happening in Region Three, and where there’s opportunity, there’s money to be made,” Gaul added. “We just want to help people spot and seize the available opportunities that exist within their own region so that they can build and grow their businesses.”
The partnership with R3CCI gives ECONOME a direct link to the region’s organized business community. Under the leadership of President Bhabita Albert, the first woman elected to lead the Chamber since its formation in 2000, R3CCI has focused on transparent governance, inclusive growth, and advocacy for the region’s private sector. Albert is also the Managing Director of West Central Mall, Region Three’s first commercial and entertainment complex, which serves as the event venue.
“Untapped Waters” will feature a business forum with industry leaders, panel discussions, and structured networking. The program is tailored to the industries and investment opportunities active in Region Three. The event takes place Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the West Central Mall Movie Theatre. Registration is available through ECONOME’s social media channels and website at www.economeconference.gy.
